We are a community of passionate music educators and music enthusiasts dedicated to promoting excellence in music education across Malaysia. Through our advocacy efforts and activities, we aim to inspire an appreciation for the value of music and elevate the standard of music education in our country.


The goals of MAME are to champion the importance of music education in Malaysia, to contribute to the development of music teaching & learning as well as research & publication activities in Malaysia, to enhance the professionalism of Malaysian music educators, and to encourage the appreciation of music and music education among all levels of Malaysian society.

Associate Professor Dr. Ramona Mohd. Tahir received her Ph.D from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois under the supervision of Bennett Reimer.  Her current portfolio includes board member of the Asia Pacific Symposium for Music Education Research (APSMER); president of the Malaysian Association for Music Education (MAME); executive committee member of Music Malaysia (Gabungan Persatuan Industri Muzik Malaysia) and the Southeast Asia Directors of Music (SEADOM) association; and Yamaha Higher Grade Examiner.  She has organized numerous public concerts, workshops, and seminars including the GLOMUS2015 and APSMER2017 conferences.


In 2006 she was chair of the Conference Organizing Group of the 27th International Society for Music Education World Conference in Kuala Lumpur – to date, the only ISME world conference held in South East Asia.  She has presented keynote, plenary, and papers as well as served as a panelist at music and music education conferences in Russia, Mozambique, Australia, China, Thailand, Tanzania, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia.  Ramona has significant experiences as an academic administrator, having served in positions such as head of department, programme coordinator, coordinator of international relations, deputy dean (academic) and Dean of Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) Faculty of Music from 2012 till 2017.  She is currently attached to the Department of Music Education & Music Business at UiTM’s College of Creative Arts.  Among the courses she teaches at the university are Music Education in Malaysia, Music Management and Supervision, Music Theory as well as History and Philosophy of Music Education.

Susanna Saw is an active music educator promoting music and choral education in Malaysia. She is currently a lecturer and choir director at the Faculty of Music at the University of Malaya and the Malaysian Institute of Art. In 2007, she established the Young Choral Academy in Kuala Lumpur, a venue for choral lovers and teachers to learn more about vocal and choral education. 


Susanna has been regularly invited to be a member of the Jury for various international choir festivals. She is also an active Working Committee member of the Asia-Pacific Choral Council, under the auspices of the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM). She is one of the Board Members on the Advisory Board of CHORALSPACE Academy, as well as a Board Member at the International Choral Conductors Federation. She is currently the Vice-President of the International Kodály Society and the Malaysian Association for Music Education.

YM Raja Nadiah is a primary school music teacher at SK Sungai Penchala. She graduated from The Specialist Teachers Training Institute (STTI), Kuala Lumpur in Bachelor of Music Education. She took her Grade 6 violin from London College of Music during her secondary school days. She also plays the traditional instruments such as gamelan, caklempong and kompang. She is also the coach for music education primary school teachers in Kuala Lumpur. She is currently coaching the Strings Ensemble Group at SK Bukit Damansara. Kuala Lumpur. She wrote the “Buku Aktiviti Pendidikan Muzik Sekolah Rendah” for Year 1-6. She recently got the title of “Excellent Teacher in Music Education” in the year of 2021.

Lim Zek Chew was a music lecturer in the Department of Music Education at the Institute of Teacher Education, Ilmu Khas Campus, Kuala Lumpur. She graduated from University of Otago New Zealand and then continued her studies in University of  Putra Malaysia for her Masters of Science (Music Education). She then completed her PhD  at University of  Malaya in Music Education. Dr Lim had served in five teacher training colleges during her service as a music educator, in the state of Johor, Pahang and WP Kuala Lumpur. She taught music education for 36 years and retired in 2020.

Dr. Salasiah Abbas is the Advisor of ZMW Music School, Malacca, Malaysia. She is also the President of the Persatuan Seni Muzik ZMW (PSMZW). She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and International Relations from Deakin University, Australia with Golden Key Honorary Society. She later obtained her Masters and PHD from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).


Dr. Salasiah has 25 years of experience in the fields of Management, Sustainability and Talent Development. Some of the awards received for her passion for education, music and culture includes the Gold Award OPUSAPP: THE ARTWORK APPLICATION International Innovation Competition on Languages, Education & Societies (IINNCOME 2022) and Bronze Award for E-GAMELAN APPLICATION International Innovation Competition on Languages, Education & Societies (IINNCOME 2022). Among the successfully held programs in collaboration with MOTAC, JKKN and JPN, KPM includes Festival Muzik Tradisi, Music Tech-Talk, Konsert Bakat Muda Malaysia, Forum Komuniti Seni (FKS), Bengkel Seni Untuk Semua (BSUS): Gamelan & e-Gamelan, the Young Young Entrepreneurs Program (YEP) with Parliament Johor Bahru and talent show Tunjuk Bakat Kita (TBK) which involved thousands of talents and more than 20,000 social media viewers. Her ongoing projects include Malacca World Music Festival and Dr. OPUS: Travelog Seni.

Colleen Wong is a senior music educator in the Department of Music and Music Education at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Tanjong Malim, Perak. She holds a double music degree from the National Arts Academy (previously known as ASK) and the University of Malaya (with distinction) and received her M.A in Performing Arts from the University of Malaya. Colleen completed her EdD specializing in Instructional Leadership at Nova Southeastern University, Florida. In addition to teaching, she is a senior gamelan player with Rhythm in Bronze (RIB) and has performed with musicians from Malaysia as well as South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and United Kingdom. She has facilitated workshops using Malay gamelan with both adults and children. She also adjudicates national and international Malay gamelan festivals. Her passion for educating school children in music has also led her to undertake significant research in this field.
